I am the data editor with the FTChinese.com of Financial Times based in Beijing & Taipei, where I oversee data-driven stories, graphics and Cross-Strait relations coverage. Previously, I worked at Taiwan's business magazine CommonWealth and studied at NYU's Studio 20.
I am particularly interested in data-driven and cross-border stories. Topics I follow include China’s censorship, foreign policy, economic influence, and Cross-Strait relations.
I teach college/graduate level classes and short training courses on digital storytelling and data journalism from time to time. I also co-founded a non-profit community "Hacks/Hackers Taipei", where encourages techies and journos to work together.
I hosted a panel on how tech influences journalism and vice versa on G0V summit 2020.
I taught a 2-day summer workshop on #ddj at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School for China's promising young journalists.
I was the panelist for the Global Public Policy Institute, discussed data governance in China.
I was the speaker and the panelist on the China Data Journalism Forum (Chinese version of NICAR), shared how to do data journalism in China. [slides]
I taught the data journalism workshop for the graduate students at Hong Kong Baptist University. [slides]
I also the taught data journalism and digital journalism classes at Taiwan's National Chengchi University.
I was one of the final judge for Taiwan's Civic Tech Grants (2017 Fall term).
I co-founded Hacks/Hackers Taipei, a local chapter of the international grassroots journalism organization. Host workshops and hackathons for local journalists and technologists.
I was part of a team hosted the very first data bootcamp (d|Bootcamp) in Taiwan in partnership with the World Bank.
